Becoming Beloved Community - SIM Associate Director Jim Goodmann

With each year and each new cohort of SIM scholars, our being inspired (myself and others on the Scholarship Committee) has turned, more and more, toward wonder and awe – at the giftedness of these women and men and their daring, and their willingness to embody the love of Christ in this challenging age.”

At one point in the Gospels, Jesus says that “wisdom is justified by her children.” Goodmann would place these scholars in that company – as sons and daughters of divine wisdom, as those who believe that the truth of the Gospel is at its core about love but a love that always rhymes with justice. As one of the SIM scholars puts it, “In a moment when many fear the church is becoming too political - or not political enough – I say this: the Church must always be pastoral and prophetic. Our voice should offer healing and hope, but never at the cost of silence in the face of injustice.”
